I Whispered the poem “Nocturnal” by the Iranian poet Ahmad Shamlou while swimming in the Persian Gulf under a starry night sky. The sea shone with plankton. The poem reflects on Shamlou’s friend who was executed and explores themes of resistance, friendship, and mythology. I was also inspired by the designs of famous squares around the world, such as Naghsh-e Jahan Square, which have been the sites of significant historical events, including executions.
